The Armed Forces of Mali (FAMA) reported that they repelled a series of coordinated attacks in the southeast of the country, in the regions of Gao and Douentza, in addition, they claimed to have eliminated several fighters from the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an organization linked to Al Qaeda.

According to an official statement published on the social network X, last Sunday the military units responded “firmly” to an offensive against the Wabaria post, launched on August 3 by armed insurgents.

The authorities said they managed to “neutralize several terrorist elements” and recover military material after the clashes, Telesur develops.

The statement came after the JNIM announced that it had captured two Army installations in Wabaria, which was categorically rejected by Malian forces.

This incident occurs just 48 hours after the same jihadist group claimed an ambush against a military convoy of Malian troops and their Russian allies in the town of Tenenkou, in the center of the country, according to APA News.
