The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, accompanied this Sunday the day of the National Popular Consultation 2026 at the El Valle Ecological School, where she highlighted the participation of the people in the decision of projects for their territory.

Meléndez pointed out that the day constitutes an exercise in direct, proactive and participatory democracy, in which communities define investment priorities. “We are in this democratic festival, a celebration of all the people deciding their projects for the territory,” he said.

He indicated that in El Valle participation is developing normally and that voters are making progress in the process of selecting community proposals. “We are in the ecological school, being the tail one, we are going to pass, but we invite everyone. Grandparents and grandmothers are always the first, the ones who wake up early to go and decide,” he said.

The mayor reiterated that the consultation allows each community to determine the winning project according to their needs and local planning. “This is direct democracy to decide in our territory which project is the winning one,” he said.

The day takes place in the communal circuits set up in Caracas, where grassroots organizations present their proposals related to services, infrastructure, production and environmental improvements.
