The inhabitants of the state of Mérida, as well as the commercial and institutional sector of the entity, benefit from the activation of a comprehensive plan of action aimed at mitigating the effects of the El Niño climate phenomenon and protecting the regional electricity and drinking water supply.
The strategy, led by Governor Arnaldo Sánchez, contemplates the swearing in of the Community Energy and Life Brigades in more than 100 communes, in order to raise awareness about the efficient consumption of resources in communities, in addition to the establishment of reduced working hours for the public sector in the region.
In the commercial sphere, the Regional Executive will set up work tables with small and medium-sized merchants to define energy saving agreements, while it will require large consumers and shopping centers to activate self-generation electricity systems and regulate the use of high-consumption equipment such as air conditioners, elevators and escalators.
With these preventive measures and the coordination between the territorial government and the People's Power, the Andean entity seeks to balance the energy load, optimize basic services and counteract the impact of the climate contingency throughout the territory of Merida.
