The Government of the state of Mérida, this Tuesday, February 03, activated an operational center to coordinate all aid and preventive deployment in the Alberto Adriani municipality, in El Vigía, after the heavy rains that caused the collapse of the bridge over the Guarurí River and other damage due to the strong flooding of the tributary.

The governor of the entity, Arnaldo Sánchez, on his social networks, announced that precise instructions were received from the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, to support the deployment of all rescue and aid teams.

Attention to this contingency is carried out in the Guarurí and Onia Culegría sectors, agricultural and residential areas that are part of the Pulido Méndez parish.

During the early morning of Monday, February 02, heavy rains affected the bridge, undermining one of the bases of its metal structure due to the rising waters of the river.

Ongoing actions involve technical inspection, to evaluate structural damage to the bridge; social care, with security and prevention crews that travel through Onia Culegría, to provide support to families whose homes were damaged after the overflow of the riverbed, and a service point activated as an operational center to coordinate all aid and preventive deployment in the municipality.

“We are still on high alert and working tirelessly for the safety of our people,” said the regional president.
