Mexico evaluates re-establishing diplomatic relations with Peru

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that her Government is evaluating the possibility of re-establishing relations with Peru after the election of José María Balcázar as the new president.

“We will wait to see, once he takes office, if it is feasible to re-establish relations,” he said.

Sheinbaum recalled that the rupture occurred after the granting of asylum to Betssy Chávez and stressed that any approach must start from Lima.

“The initiative has to be theirs, because they were the ones who broke relations with Mexico,” he said.

Balcázar belongs to Free Peru, the same party with which Pedro Castillo came to power, Sputnik reported.
