The Government of Mexico granted political asylum to the former vice-president of Ecuador, Jorge Glass, who is currently at the Embassy of the Aztec country in Quito.

“The Government of Mexico has decided to grant political asylum to Mr. Jorge David Glas Espinel, who is currently at the Embassy of Mexico in Quito, which will be officially communicated to the Ecuadorian authorities together with the request that he grant the respective safe conduct,” said the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

This procedure is carried out in accordance with the Diplomatic Asylum Convention of 1954, an international treaty between Mexico and Ecuador.

It should be noted that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador indicated that they would seek various strategies to transfer Glas to Mexican soil, according to a note from Sputnik.
