The Attorney General's Office of Mexico has launched an investigation against former President Enrique Peña Nieto for bribery in the purchase of the Israeli spy software Pegasus.

“We are going to demand from the Israeli authorities that this information they gave of a media nature can be incorporated into a folder to move forward,” said Mexican Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero at a press conference held by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

It was known that Peña Nieto would have received 25 million dollars to sign various security contracts.

According to the Israeli media outlet The Market, businessmen Uri Emmanuel Ansbacher and Avishay Samuel Neriya injected these resources into the presidential campaign of the then candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI in 2012), in exchange for security contracts with different Mexican institutions.
