The elected president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, promised to continue investigations into the case of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa after her first meeting of almost two hours with the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with the families of the disappeared young people.
Sheinbaum, in statements, gave his word that this will be a central issue in his administration and that once he takes office he will define the mechanism for continuing with the investigations.
“We agreed to keep meeting, we are not going to forget the Ayotzinapa case, and we are going to continue working with them,” he said.
The president-elect said that continuing to work together with family members won't always be easy: “On some things we'll agree and on others we won't, but it's about us walking together [...] and we have to find a way to find the truth.”
