This Tuesday, during her regular meeting with the media, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reaffirmed her commitment to the defense of national sovereignty and ruled out any possibility of foreign interference, especially by U.S. agencies.

Sheinbaum stressed that the Constitution and the National Security Law precisely regulate the operation of foreign agents in Mexican territory.

“The strength of the Government lies in the legitimacy granted to it by the people, and that shields us from any attempt at intervention,” he said and explained that current legislation prohibits unilateral operations by foreign agencies, as happened in previous six-year periods.

The president recalled that during the governments of Felipe Calderón and Ernesto Zedillo there were episodes of strong dependence on the United States. “In Calderonism, there were cases such as the operation 'Fast and Furious', where U.S. agents operated in Mexico without regulation.”

He also pointed out that “today this is fully regulated and supervised by an intersecretarial committee that requires mandatory monthly reports.”
