The presidential spokesman of Argentina, Manuel Adorni, announced that next Thursday officials of the Government of Javier Milei will receive a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss the country's debt.

“The delegation will be received by the Chief of Staff [Nicolás Posse] and the Minister of Economy [Luis Caputo], in line with renegotiating the agreement that is virtually fallen,” he said at a press conference replicated by the RT agency.

This will be the first formal meeting of the IMF in Buenos Aires with the new Argentine Government, which took office on December 10.

The debt, which was contracted during the presidency of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), is around 45 billion dollars and represents the largest amount that the agency has authorized in its history.

The meeting with the IMF is urgent, since on January 9 and 16, Argentina must pay maturities of 1.9 billion dollars and the president has warned that there are no resources.

On the other hand, Adorni called on political and trade union leaders and citizens in general to be part of the change proposed by Milei, based on a harsh adjustment of public spending and the total deregulation of the economy.
