MINEC releases more than seven thousand turtles in Bolívar state

Officials from the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC) participated in the successful release of 7611 juvenile specimens of Arrau Turtle (Podocnemis expansa) and Terecay Turtle (Podocnemis unifilis), on Playa Medio Island, in the state of Bolivar, an activity framed in World Turtle Day.
Deputy Minister José Pereira, present at the event, highlighted the impeccable work of those who cared for the newborn turtles, which made possible the impeccable release process. He reported that, in addition to the released individuals, there are 33,009 who will be transferred to the Chávez Patrol Zoo, in the state of Apure, details a press release
Another 5000 will be protected and cared for within the facilities of the Arrau Turtle Wildlife Refuge and Protected Area, Wildlife Refuge and Arra Turtle Protection Zone, and 1000 will be divided between two lots that will be given to two indigenous communities.
Pereira confirmed that the procedure accounts for a total of 39,009 turtles, which maintain rigorous care processes before being inserted into the ecosystem. Seven technical officials from the MINEC Biological Diversity Unit participated in the liberation day.
