The Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, stressed that the new high-end medical technology installed at the University Hospital of Caracas was only available in four other private clinics in the country, but now, it is in a public hospital.
“A robot was purchased; this robot is of the latest technology; in Venezuela there is no other one in the public sector, it is a system that works through a console, where it manipulates the tools at a physical distance between the surgeon and the patient,” said Minister Alvarado.
He also commented that in order to use this tool, the operator must go through a training process, while each case must be evaluated individually before proceeding strictly depending on the patient's physical conditions, since not all operations can be performed.
He detailed the scope of the hospital infrastructure plans, aimed at the structural recovery of reference care centers and the network of popular clinics, and referred to the interventions carried out through the Comprehensive Hospital Infrastructure Recovery Plan and the work of the BRICOMILES, through which nearly 200 health structures were recovered and 73 projects were maintained for direct execution by the Community Councils.
The minister pointed out that these tasks fundamentally addressed waterproofing, drinking water systems, power plants, elevators, air conditioning of critical areas to ensure the operation of intensive care services and operating rooms; he contemplated the execution of more than 130 additional projects in the hospital network and FMBA, as well as recovery work at the Pérez Carreño Hospital in Caracas and improvements in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital Dr. José María Vargas de La Guaira.
Regarding the Plan for Health and Life 2026, he noted that the most important health demands of the Venezuelan population have been met. In this regard, he stressed that the largest number of requests through the 1X10 Good Governance platform has to do with the need for cataract care, a pathology for which he assured that 15,250 people out of 50,000 registered have already been operated on.
This was announced during the program De Frente con la Noticia broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, in which he offered an overview of the Plan for Health and Life, promoted by the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, at the end of January of this year. He stressed that after cataracts, there is a massive demand for low-complexity surgeries. “To date, 20,366 interventions have been carried out out of a total of 107,000 registrations.”
In addition, 1610 hemodynamic procedures have been performed and 536 pacemakers have been implanted, thus achieving 64% and 36% of the goal, respectively.
He stressed that not only does the National Public Health System work to meet the surgical needs of the population, “we established a goal to intervene with 8,000 patients in partnership with insurance companies and the private sector and we have already treated 1,955 people. It is an alliance that has been very beneficial for the Venezuelan people,” he stressed.
Finally, he emphasized the actions carried out by the Bolivarian Government for the rehabilitation of hospitals throughout the national territory, such as the Dr. José Gregorio Hernández Comprehensive Hospital Recovery Plan, which complements all the actions of the Executive Branch, aimed at having a positive impact on direct health care for the entire population.
