The Minister of People's Power for Health, Nuramy Gutiérrez, reported that in the course of 2026, Venezuela has registered only seven positive cases of yellow fever and that the most important thing is to reinforce prevention.

In the program A Pulso, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he warned that disseminating data without context can generate alarm or panic in the population, so he insisted on promoting preventive measures and responsible communication to avoid disproportionate reactions.

Gutiérrez clarified that the vaccination card is not mandatory in any case, refuting the information that states that it is a requirement to be vaccinated against yellow fever.

“A single dose guarantees lifelong immunity,” he said, clarifying that those who have not been vaccinated previously should do so in the age range between 1 and 59 years.

He also called for resuming the popular experience in the elimination of mosquito breeding sites (vectors), a practice that the Venezuelan people have already mastered to combat other diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.

The minister confirmed that given the circulation of the virus confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene, the ministerial body in charge, she has prioritized four strategic states: Aragua, Barinas, Lara and Portuguesa.

He also announced that the possibility of implementing vaccination points against yellow fever at airports is being considered, which would allow tourists visiting the country to be vaccinated.

Gutiérrez highlighted that during the prevention phase against yellow fever, around 49,000 vaccines have been applied, although he specified that the numbers alone are not the most relevant.

At this point, he specified that the fundamental thing is to advance coverage, recalling that the country has a cumulative number of approximately three million people vaccinated in previous cycles and that the objective now is to extend protection to the entire Venezuelan population.

On the other hand, he said that, due to the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the country, the acquisition of medical-surgical equipment and medicines was greatly limited.

In this regard, he asserted that, thanks to the policies implemented by the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, it has been possible to make obtaining these fundamental inputs more flexible.

He emphasized that the traditional way in which the Bolivarian Government has made purchases for the health sector has been totally transparent.
