The 2025-2026 school year will close with 2,200 rehabilitated schools and high schools, Education Minister Héctor Rodríguez said Friday.
During an inspection at the National Educational Unit (UEN), Pablo Acosta Ortiz, in Caracas, explained that, of that number, 1,700 are already ready and another 500 are under execution. He also announced that another 500 will be added to this schedule, recently approved by the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, to reach 2,700.
The minister highlighted the impact of this initiative at the national level and noted that they are working hand in hand with local and regional authorities to prioritize schools, always seeking a territorial balance so that at least one school is incorporated per municipality, also taking care that the works do not affect school activities through the use of alternative spaces.
Regarding the works at the UEN Pablo Acosta Ortiz, Rodríguez estimated that the facilities will be ready for the month of September. He explained that the classrooms will be operational by that date and that later work will continue on green areas and collective public spaces, which will guarantee a practically new infrastructure.
Also, according to a press release, he called for community organizing, explaining that it is vital to know how to prioritize projects. He warned that, although communities tend to express a desire to repair all schools at the same time, “we must proceed with caution” so as not to leave students without available spaces to receive their classes while the work is being carried out.
