The Minister of People's Power for Defense. G/J Vladimir Padrino López, said that he was celebrating the first discussion of the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, this Thursday, February 5, by the National Assembly (AN).

In his account on the social network Telegram, he stressed that “I see it as a transcendental step towards overcoming these old wounds and building a common future”.

“That is why I applaud this initiative with hope and commitment, because it embodies not only a legal solution, but a political and moral commitment to lasting peace, the reunion of all and the defense of the greater good of the Fatherland, because forgiveness in itself is liberating,” he said.

The minister stressed that “as Aristotle said, the stability of the polis depends on the ability of its people to leave behind internal divisions. If this is not done, internal disputes end up weakening the body politic and making it easy prey to external threats.”

In this regard, he stressed that “this fragility can only be addressed with legislative prudence and a vision of the State. In his words: 'Rivalries and discords must be tried to prevent them through laws [...] taking into account that discerning evil in its beginning is not typical of anyone, but of a statesman'”.

He also emphasized that “amnesty and forgiveness do not mean impunity or oblivion. They are, first of all, a necessary strategy driven to seek a common encounter between all Venezuelans and Venezuelans, to remake the political and social fabric before the internal conflict leads to irreversible damage to peace, denying sovereignty, progress and the very existence of the Republic. I am optimistic!”
