In the La Boca, La Sabana sector, in the state of La Guaira, 13 turtles hatched and were released into the sea from a clutch with 54 in situ cardon turtle eggs ( Dermochelys coriacea), from a specimen that spawned in the month of April.

The fact represents the sixth cardon nest that thrives in the protected area of the La Sabana Sea Turtle Community Project, according to the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC) in a press release.

In this regard, the regional director of MINEC, Edison Adrián, stressed that “every birth in situ is the result of tireless work between science and organized Popular Power, which consolidates La Guaira as a reference in the protection of marine biodiversity”.

In this 2026 season, La Guaira has had 20 nests under development that are under constant monitoring, of which six have successfully hatched in the local nursery.
