The Integrated Management of Cocoa under an Agroecological Approach was the central axis of a knowledge exchange day that brought together producers from the Renacer commune of José Félix Ribas, in the San Jorge sector, Tapipa community of Miranda state.

This activity, according to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology (Mincyt), is part of the project Support for the Science and Technology Plan for the strengthening of cocoa and the development of rural tourism in Venezuela.

In addition, according to the above-mentioned text, it seeks to provide producing communities with scientific and practical tools for a more sustainable and efficient production.

Cenidic researchers Luis Marrero, Nohely Hernández and Oneida Basalo shared with producers the key knowledge to transform their crops, placing special emphasis on the importance of organic fertilizers as the “magic that brings life back to the soil”.

The participants had the opportunity to learn to recognize organic matter with their own hands, understanding the importance for fertility.

The day culminated with a practical and enthusiastic activity, in which the essential steps for making a homemade compost bin were shared.

This work in the context of sustainability translates into great benefits for crop quality and for the health of the local ecosystem.

This initiative has the fundamental support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), adding international support to the strengthening of the Venezuelan cocoa sector.
