A recent study revealed that one in seven Americans does not have enough money to eat basic daily foods, following cuts imposed by President Donald Trump in funding programs to support low-income families.

On May 14, through the report released by Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2025, it became clear that hunger persists in all counties and districts of the United States (USA), rates of child food insecurity are increasing and are approaching 50%, and rural areas in particular face the brunt.

In addition, the study noted that it is unlikely that more than two out of five people who face hunger will qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Food insecurity affects older adults because data show that 12 million face food insecurity.

The average cost of a meal increases to $3.58 and some counties experience food costs of up to $6.09. These results underscore the urgent need for specific interventions to address the growing hunger crisis in American communities.
