More than 100 dead in India's stampede

Indian police reported that 116 people were killed by a stampede at a religious gathering in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

“The death toll is very likely to rise, as there are many people injured in the stampede. Rescue operations are being carried out on the spot,” the police reported via telephone contact to the Xinhua news agency.

In this regard, the authorities detailed that the incident occurred in the area of Hathras, in Uttar Pradesh, about 241 kilometers southeast of New Delhi, the capital of the Asian country.

Most of the victims have been women, and on social networks they have posted videos about what happened in which unconscious children are shown on the floor.
