More than 15,000 people were arrested in 2023 for drug trafficking

A total of 15,250 people were arrested in 2023 in Venezuela for their connection to drug trafficking, representing an increase of 46.7% compared to 2022, when authorities recorded 10,395 arrests, the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (Sunad) reported.
According to Sunad data replicated by the newspaper Última Noticias, during the past year there were 11,832 procedures carried out by officials of the so-called Anti-Drug Task Force, a figure that represents an increase of 43.8% compared to 2022, when there were 8,223 operations.
Last year, members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and agents of different security forces seized a total of 52 thousand 186.8 kilos of drugs, 10.4% more than 47 thousand 264.8 kilos in 2022.
The agency assured that the entity goes beyond arrest, seeks the total dismantling of drug traffickers and puts them in prison.
