A total of 789 students from the General-Technical and University Secondary Education phase from all over the country have secured their participation in the second phase of the Venezuelan Nanotechnology Olympics (OVN) 2026, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT) through the National Program for Scientific Seedlings, aimed at consolidating the goal of 2 million Venezuelan talents in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.

This stage of selecting the talents that will represent Venezuela in national and international competitions began last March 12 with the call, reaching the participation of 3,893 students throughout the country for the first stage, where the applicants faced simple selection and development tests that delved into scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics and nanotechnology.

The call, according to a press release, included two types of participation; the first of which was aimed at students from the 3rd to the 6th year of Technical Secondary Education from public and private institutions, under Category “A”.

The second category, “B”, corresponds to university students studying nanotechnology or related careers in science and engineering in public and private study houses.

The states with the highest number of people qualified for the Second Regional Phase are the entities of Lara (92), Sucre (55), Amazonas and Yaracuy (53).

Likewise, the states Falcón (50), Portuguesa (44), Monagas and Zulia (43) had a prominent representation of the so-called Genial Generation.

It should be noted that in Regional Phase II, it is estimated that only 10% of the participants with the best grades will qualify for the national grand final.

In addition, in Phase III or national, the contestants with the highest total scores will be the finalists and will travel to Caracas for the final stage of the competition.

The six best in Category “B” or university will make up the national delegation that will receive advanced training for the International Nanotechnology Olympiad (INO).
