In the square of the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), located in Fine Arts, the restoration of an emblematic mural that honors the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez, 12 years after his planting, began.
The representative of the Open Sky Cultural School, Luis Piña, affirmed through the UNEARTE Instagram page the importance of this initiative as a symbol of cultural renaissance in Venezuela. “This space, recovered for the people, reflects the sociocultural movement that has transformed the country,” he said.
The rector of UNEARTE, Ignacio Barreto, emphasized the value of these spaces, which, in the past, were exclusive to the elites of the Fourth Republic. In addition, he recalled that the opening of the old Athenaeum under the direction of the Commander was a milestone in the democratization of culture.
“UNEARTE continues to be a pillar in the training of professionals in cultural and artistic areas, which fulfills the dream of the Eternal Giant,” he said.
For his part, the vice-president of President Hugo Chávez's School of Higher Thought Studies, Edwin Díaz, highlighted the global impact of the figure of the Venezuelan leader and noted that the restoration of the plaza is a tribute to Chávez's effort to rescue the country's cultural identity, where his love for poetry, music and the recovery of public spaces stood out.
The artist Iván Nicolai Monroy Bustos, known as “Shamanic”, shared that the initiative to restore the mural came from the students and recalled with emotion his encounter with Chávez during the World Youth Festival, where he presented him with a portrait of Bolivar. “That moment reflected the Commander's genuine connection to art and culture,” he said.
