On the outskirts of the National Art Gallery (GAN), attached to the National Museums Foundation (FMN), a collective mural reinterpreting the iconic work of Pablo Picasso, “Guernica”, and the pictorial works of Elsa Morales, was inaugurated to denounce the bombings suffered in Venezuela by the United States (USA) on January 3.
The inauguration of the work was led by Mary Pemjean, Deputy Minister of Image and Space Arts and president of the FMN; Clemente Martínez, director of the GAN; Miguel Guerra, a visual artist and muralist, among other personalities linked to art.
Pemjean stressed that the piece is a call for reflection and peace, recalling that the United States attacked the emotion and security of the population, but art remains present to show that tragedy and call for the conscience and unity of Venezuelans.
He stressed that, despite the bombings, the country remains in peace and harmony thanks to the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, and because of the governance of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the first female fighter Cilia Flore, who have been kidnapped by the North American government.
For his part, Miguel Guerra, who created the mural together with a collective team, explained that they were inspired by “Guernica” because it is the global flag of reflection against the disasters of war, and in that sense, the work in the vicinity of the GAN links the Venezuelan experience with the realities suffered in Palestine, Libya, Syria and Iraq. “Our job is not to let that memory decay,” he said.
Meanwhile, the director of the National Art Gallery reported that this is the first of a series of murals to be carried out by the FMN. In turn, he reflected that the initiative seeks creators to express themselves through the image to project hope and optimism.
He also stated that the intention of these murals comes from the artists themselves, who seek to express themselves and, therefore, the GAN and the FMN grant them the spaces for the people to receive the message of peace.
