The National Assembly (AN) approved this Tuesday, in the second discussion, the first 18 articles of the Bill for the Promotion and Promotion of Cocoa, which aims to promote the sustainable development of the production of this sector and its related activities, with agroecological criteria and national added value.

The first vice-president of the National Assembly (AN), Deputy Pedro Infante, specified that the Legislative Branch seeks to strengthen national production with legislative advances in agricultural matters that will directly favor producers and the Venezuelan people.

In addition, the president of the Standing Committee on Economy, Finance and National Development, Deputy Jesús Fanía, emphasized that the bill establishes conditions of strict social justice in the cacao sector.

He also explained that, historically, the primary producer has suffered serious inequalities in the marketing chain, so the law will include mechanisms to ensure that the distribution of income generated by the sector is carried out in a much more equitable and balanced way.

“We proposed this law so that, with all the organized people, institutions and living forces that are interested in the recovery of this sector, we not only produce more, we export more, but we also develop a fair distribution of resources. In order to finally have a much more positive impact on producers, families who are fundamentally those that produce on a small scale. That is expressly contemplated,” said Faria.

This standard prioritizes the preservation of genetic quality, especially of criollo cacao, and guarantees the protection and leading participation of women, the peasant sector, indigenous peoples, Afro-descendant communities, producers, workers and communes.
