The National Assembly (AN), this Friday, February 6, installed the Special Commission of the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, a body created after the approval of the legislative proposal, in the first discussion and unanimously, by the Parliamentary Plenary.
The installation was carried out in the Federal Legislative Palace, an activity in which the 19 parliamentarians of the Fatherland Bloc and the opposition factions, who make up the commission, presented some contributions to the consultation process of the bill.
The president of the Special Commission for the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, Deputy Jorge Arreaza, presented the bill, reaffirming that the purpose of the bill is to grant general and full amnesty to those who are prosecuted or convicted for alleged or proven commission of political or related crimes, from 1999 to January 30, 2026.
On January 30, the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, proposed a General Amnesty Law that covers the entire period of political violence from 1999 to date.
On that occasion, he stressed that the legal instrument has this background in two laws ordered by Commander Hugo Chávez and one by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
He stressed that the initiative “will serve to repair the wounds left by the confrontation of violence and to rescue coexistence among Venezuelans.”
