National Electric System recovered 600 megawatts after the earthquakes

To recover generation capacity, the work plan contemplates adding 1,300 MW before the end of the year

Electricity generation in the central region of Venezuela recovered 600 megawatts (MW) of the 800 MW affected by the recent earthquakes, the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, presented a balance sheet of the repair work of the national electricity system.

“In the earthquake, 800 megawatts were affected in the central region (...) of those 800 megawatts, we have already recovered 600, and by the end of the year the generation that was lost will be complete,” said the president, according to information from the Ministry for Communication and Information.

The earthquakes affected the operation of the India Urquía and Termocarabobo plants, as well as the operation of the Planta Centro and Yaracuy transmission lines .

To recover generation capacity, the work plan contemplates adding 1,300 MW before the end of the year, including the reactivation of unit six of Planta Centro, which would provide 600 MW with technical advice from China

In the medium term, the authorities plan to add another 7,400 MW through alliances with international companies such as General Electric and Industrias Metallurgicas Pescarmona (IMPSA), in addition to guaranteeing the supply of spare parts from Siemens.

At the same time, the Executive will promote a reform of the National Electricity System Act to allow the participation of the private sector in the areas of energy generation, transmission and distribution.
