The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted on Monday the progress made in Operation Catatumbo Lightning, following the seizure of more than 5 tons of high-purity cocaine in the state of Zulia, from Colombian drug trafficking gangs.

During the 74th broadcast of his program Con Maduro+, the Head of State highlighted that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) is making progress in “monitoring the process of dismantling drug gangs linked to María Corina Machado, who were thinking of attacking key points in the country in December and January.”

He noted that two operations, one intelligence and the other military, were carried out with great results. Initially, the confiscation of a cache of high-purity cocaine, “the largest that has ever been captured in the history of the efficient and successful fight against drug trafficking that the Bolivarian Revolution and Venezuela have had,” he emphasized.

“We are faced on the ground with the great threats of drug trafficking and our police forces, our military forces know, all our people know that our Government is the world champion in Latin America in the fight against this scourge, against the mafias. And our people also know that the Colombian drug trafficking mafias are responsible, coordinated with the DEA and the FBI, for financing the conspiracy, fascist and violent movements of recent years,” said the president about the plans of the extreme right to destabilize the country.

He indicated that this great coup against drug mafias is in full swing. “We know the complete drug trafficking map of Iván Duque de Álvaro Uribe (...) This coup, which has achieved tremendous success in Catatumbo, is a direct blow against the drug trafficking of Álvaro Uribe Vélez and Iván Duque, there is no doubt about it”.
