The National Network of Oral Storytellers,
Popular Storytellers and Cacheros of Venezuela began preparations for the Third National
Meeting of Oral Storytellers, scheduled for September in
Lara state, during a meeting held with authorities from the Ministry of
Popular Power for Culture at the Aquiles Nazoa Cultural House, in Caracas.
The day was attended by the
Minister of Culture, Raúl Cazal, as well as Deputy Ministers Gabriela Simoza
and Rosario Soto, who supported the initiative aimed at strengthening oral
narration as a tool for the preservation of Venezuelan memory, traditions and cultural identity.
During the meeting, representatives of
the Network presented proposals for the organization of the event and presented the
work they carry out in different regions of the country through
training activities, the promotion of reading, cultural meetings and the rescue of popular
knowledge.
In addition, Cazal highlighted the work of oral
storytellers in transmitting knowledge and traditions from
generation to generation, while insisting on the need to deepen the training component to expand
the reach of this experience throughout the national territory.
For his part, Simoza emphasized the role of oral
narration in the defense of cultural identity, while Soto
expressed his willingness to support the publication of materials that collect
these experiences to bring them closer to children and young people.
The event brought together representatives from
various regions of the country, who agreed on the importance of strengthening
the spoken word as a living heritage.
It was also announced that the
national meeting will pay tribute to the renowned Venezuelan storyteller José Humberto
Castillo, known as “The Cayman of Sanare”, an emblematic figure of oral narration in Venezuela.
