Last Monday, the murder of another Palestinian journalist, identified as Islam al-Koumi, was reported in an attack on the neighborhood of Sabra, in the capital Gaza.
After the murder of the Palestinian journalist, the number of Palestinian journalists who have been killed since October 2023 has risen to 239, according to local authorities.
A medical source quoted by Telesur stated that at least three Palestinians died and several others were injured in an Israeli attack on the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City on Monday. The remains of journalist Islam al-Koumi were among the victims.
Through social networks, they show their son being held by a relative of al-Koumi asking about his father in tears; while another video shows the journalist's recently deceased body with the press vest resting on his skirt.
The Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Israeli policy of “silencing the truth and persecuting communicators”, while the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) called for exploring unprecedented measures of protection, ranging from media strikes in Western newsrooms to international sanctions and complaints of war crimes in the International Criminal Court.
