Until May 24, the play La Reina, proposed, written and starring actress Valentina Garrido, will remain on stage at the Teatro Alberto de Paz y Mateos, in Caracas, which explores the myth of María Lionza from a contemporary perspective.
Under the direction of Carlos Arroyo and produced by Chabasquen Producciones, the production moves away from deep religious practice to focus on the ancient narrative and feminine archetypes.
The story stems from the curiosity of a young woman from Caracas when faced with the sculpture of Alejandro Colina, a quest that leads her to rediscover the strength of today's woman through the figure of the goddess. The staging stands out for its modern language and includes original music by Jhoabeat, video art by Ariana León and aerial acrobatics by Richard Marín. To preserve the atmosphere of privacy and allow public participation, the capacity is limited to only 60 people per function, according to a press release from the cultural body.
