With a solemn ceremony, the town of Ocumare de la Costa de Oro in the state of Aragua commemorated 260 years of founding. The central event was marked by a joint session between the Legislative Council of the Bolivarian State of Aragua (CLEBA) and the Municipal Council of the jurisdiction, where tribute was paid to the region's combative past and a route was drawn towards its consolidation for the future.
The municipal director of culture, Luis Lovera, served as keynote speaker for the session, in which he emphasized the vindication of the ancestral heritage and identity of the Aragüan coast.” We are fierce and courageous, after so many years here we are claiming ancestry,” said Lovera, also a teacher, as reviewed by the local press.
In his words, he made a direct call to the community to promote the economic and social development of the jurisdiction, but with a premise of “moving forward without losing sight of the memory and legacy of their ancestors”.
For her part, the president of the regional parliament, legislator Katiana Hernández, projected a prosperous future for the coastal region. Hernández stressed that, thanks to the impact of the Aragüeñdad Plan and the legal reforms that are currently under way, the coordinated work between the institutions will turn Ocumare into a true reference for transformation, both nationally and internationally.
In this regard, Wilmer Leal, mayor of the municipality, emphasized that promoting and safeguarding these cultural and historical expressions is a key and urgent task to protect the idiosyncrasy of the municipality against external currents that seek to blur local identity.
The celebration also included sports and recreational activities, snacks for the youngest members of the house, presentation of the Cata and Ocumare Core National Orchestra System and a musical show with Caribbean rhythm orchestras.
