With a view to the arrival of next June 24, the day of San Juan Bautista - a demonstration declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco -, the Ocumare municipality of the Gold Coast of the state of Aragua will be consolidated this Saturday, June 13 as the epicenter of the cultural debate with the holding of the Municipal Conversation of Drummers and Sanjuaneros.
The event, which will begin at 9:00 AM at the facilities of Club San Sebastián, will take place under the motto “Drum Pedagogy, Analysis and Experience of Our Dance Forms”.
“This is a training day open to all the public that will bring together five representatives from each of the 16 brotherhoods that live in the jurisdiction, as well as invited delegations from various municipalities in Aragua and other states of the country,” explained Luis Lovera, coordinator of the social movement of Afro-descendants of Ocumare de la Costa and spokesperson for the organization.
Lovera stressed that, unlike previous editions where the debate focused on the touches of the different peoples, the songs, the costumes and the trajectories of the cultors, this new day will serve to refresh this previous knowledge, while focusing the main effort on the analysis of the different traditional forms and styles of dance.
“The core objective is to strengthen, enrich and safeguard the codes and knowledge of tradition in the territory. In addition to practical demonstrations that will not only protect the authenticity of coastal ringing and dancing, but will also serve as the preamble to Saint John's Day,” he said.
The cultor thanked the Department of Culture of the Aragua state government for their joint support, with Nicolás González at the head; the mayor's office of the Ocumare municipality of the Gold Coast, under the management of Mayor Wilmer Leal, as well as Costaaragua and all the regional government institutions linked to the development and promotion of culture on the Aragüan coast.
