Social sectors, including teachers and construction workers, began their third week of general strike in opposition to Law 462, which modifies the pension system in Panama, against the reactivation of mining and the construction of reservoirs in the Indian River.
Likewise, the demonstrators repudiate the attacks of the Administration in the United States (USA), of Donald Trump on national sovereignty, among other demands, Telesur details.
This week, doctors, dentists and other professionals from the Social Security Fund, as well as school supervisors and nurses, joined the protest. The first two groups have expressed their disagreement through the general strike, while nurses have picketed during their working days.
It is also known that the State continues to suppress demonstrations under the pretext of keeping streets clear and allowing traffic flow.
For their part, the social sectors demand an open dialogue and the repeal of this law to carry out a comprehensive reform of the Social Security Fund with an emphasis on solidarity and collective good.
In this context, the National Coordinator of Indigenous Peoples reported arrests of leaders leading the protest. In a statement, this platform described these actions as arbitrary, in addition to pointing out the excessive use of force and human rights violations, in particular the right of communities in the Ngäbe-Buglé region to protest.
