According to communicator, philosopher and writer Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, “all communication is political”. This was stated at the National Meeting to Promote Popular Communication for the New Era, held this Friday, April 12 in Caracas.

“As a result of the events of April 11 in Venezuela, when the first media coup took place, the miracle of popular communication on the street and the first media resistance of the contemporary era also emerged,” he said.

Pérez Pirela said that during April 11, 12 and 13, unprecedented events took place in the country in contemporary history, because “that's why it's important to understand the political miracle that happened. April 12 contradicted all the classic theories of political communication, as there was a total break with almost 50 previous years of communication in Venezuela (...) The political communication they had given to the Venezuelan people during the Fourth Republic was entertainment, comedies, soap operas, beauty contests and the lethargy of a people who did not see themselves on the television screen.”

He added that in Venezuela there was a communication that “did not reflect us as a people, but everything changed after April 11, when it became political and popular.”
