The Faith party in Peru formally denounced that the assassination of its candidate for the Chamber of Deputies for Lima (capita), Gilbert Infante, was not the product of an accident, but rather a deliberate crime.

The leader of the organization and presidential candidate, Álvaro Paz de la Barra, confirmed the discovery of the body in a field in the district of Chorrillos during the early morning of this Wednesday.

According to the details provided at a press conference, the body showed serious signs of violence, specifically impacts caused by blunt objects such as bricks. Paz de la Barra emphasized that this fact adds to a worrying wave of intimidation and threats that several candidates from his group have reported in recent weeks from criminal groups.

Despite the seriousness of the complaint, the party leadership has not specified the motives behind the attack nor has it officially identified specific perpetrators. For their part, Peruvian authorities and investigative bodies have not yet issued a statement on the exact circumstances of Infante's death, keeping the case under wraps.

This event occurs in a climate of high political tension, a few days before the country holds national elections next Sunday, April 12. The Faith party in Peru requires swift investigations to ensure the safety of its representatives in the final stretch of the electoral contest.
