Peru officially announces presidential results one month later and confirms second round of elections

The electoral authorities of Peru officially announced the results of the presidential elections, held on April 12, after more than a month marked by uncertainty and allegations of alleged irregularities during the totalization process.

According to data released by the National Office of Electoral Processes, Keiko Fujimori, of the Popular Force party, obtained 17.192% of the valid votes, while Roberto Sánchez, from Together for Peru, reached 12.039% after completing the overall count of the minutes, Sputnik reports.

With these results, both candidates are advancing to the second presidential round, scheduled for June 7, according to the National Elections Jury.

The official proclamation puts an end to several weeks of waiting after the elections, amid questions and revisions related to the electoral process in the Andean country.
