From the Cruz del Morro, in the municipality of Sucre, the community of Petare commemorated its traditional Viacrucis, a stage that for more than 35 years has represented the passion and death of Jesus Christ. The activity brought together hundreds of devotees, who traveled approximately two and a half kilometers in a show of faith and spiritual commitment.
More than 100 actors participated in the dramatization of the biblical passage, after months of preparation for this staging. The tour began in the El Nazareno sector, where a mass was celebrated in the parish of Our Lady of Fatima before continuing to the Cruz del Morro, at the top of Petare.
The play was composed of young people from the community and members of the local apostolate, who with discipline and devotion interpreted each season of the Viacrucis, an event that not only served to remember the sacrifice of Jesus, but also to reinforce the sense of unity among the inhabitants of the area.
Several authorities participated in the tour, such as the deputy and head of the Plan Antonio José de Sucre, Pedro Infante, who accompanied the parishioners on their march. The activity included a security deployment made up of police, firefighters and Civil Protection personnel.
The Viacrucis traditionally consists of 14 stations that represent the most crucial moments of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, from his condemnation to his burial. In some cases, a fifteenth station is included to commemorate their resurrection.
Good Friday is one of the most solemn dates in the Christian calendar, when the faithful evoke the suffering of Jesus from his prayer in the Olive Garden to his crucifixion on Mount Golgotha. This act commemorates not only their sacrifice, but also the hope of their resurrection.
The community of Petare keeps this tradition alive year after year, consolidating it as one of the most significant representations of Holy Week in Venezuela. The devotion and effort of the participants reinforce the spiritual meaning that this commemoration has for believers and has become a pillar of identity and religious faith within Venezuelan popular culture.
