The Venezuelan National Philharmonic Orchestra (OFN) began this Sunday, February 1st, the successful musical cycle 2026 with the concert “Vigilia”, a selection of works that evoke Latin American union and the universality of our compositions.

The activity carried out in the Juan Bautista Plaza room of the National Library of Venezuela began with the symphonic poem “Vigilia”, by the composer Juan Bautista Plaza (1898-1965).

Later, the piece “Fuga con Pajarillo”, by Aldemaro Romero, was presented, a masterpiece that merges the classic counterpoint structure of the fugue with the rhythm of the Venezuelan joropo (bird), popularized by the Onda Nueva movement and symbolizes the universalization of Venezuelan music, combining technical complexity with the energy of counterpoint.

The concert was accompanied by the president of the National Music Company Foundation, Ali Alejandro Primera, who thanked the event for attending the event and congratulated the OFN heritage for the start of the season and noting the regularity of the events that will take place in the Juan Bautista Plaza room.

“We have been making some improvements and adjustments, such as the cooling system, which is in accordance with its artistic functioning and thus continues to have regular programming, at the entrance is the Samán de Andrés Bello, where he trained great thinkers and the libertarian ideology was developed,” he said.

He also specified that “this concert serves to name us within this American continent, which owes its freedom to a large extent to that great man who was Simon Bolivar, our culture is peace and the homeland will exist to the extent that we are cohesive around our glorious history, our culture and our discourse that proposes to us the total unity of all Venezuelans...”.

The second part of the concert opened with the dance of the ballet “La Estanciaby Alberto Ginastera, which is based on rural life in the Argentine pampas. By the Mexican composer José Pablo Moncayo, “Huapango” was the symphonic work that was later performed, a piece strongly associated with the nationalist cultural and audiovisual production of Mexico, considered to be the second National Anthem of that country.

To conclude, an arrangement was presented by Maestro Pedro Mauricio González, a prominent Venezuelan musician, composer, arranger and bassist, renowned for his work in contemporary and academic music; with a suite of songs by the great Simón Díaz that the audience never stopped applauding.
