Pope Leo XIV held a meeting this Friday with the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See, in which he urged to defend the dignity of migrants. During his speech, the pontiff emphasized that “it is the task of those who have the responsibility of government to apply themselves to building harmonious and peaceful civil societies”.
In addition, he stated that in the current change of era, the Holy See “cannot avoid making its own voice heard in the face of the numerous imbalances and injustices that lead, among other things, to unworthy working conditions and to increasingly fragmented and conflicting societies”.
The Holy Father asserted that an effort is needed to remedy global inequalities, “which trace deep grooves of opulence and indigence between continents, countries and, even, within societies themselves.”
Quoted by the Vatican News website, it was reported that “each one of us, in the course of our lives, can find ourselves healthy or sick, busy or unemployed, in our homeland or in a foreign land. Their dignity, however, is always the same, that of a creature dear and loved by God.”
