Civil Protection of the Portuguese State (PC) intensifies the monitoring of rivers in the municipalities of Unda and Sucre, an upper area of the state, where heavy rains occurred that caused a progressive increase in water levels flowing into the Guanare River.
The regional director of PC, Daniel Márquez, indicated that they are under permanent technical inspection and are closely monitoring the Anus River, whose flow increased considerably, causing the Guanare to rise, according to the Venezolana de Televisión website.
The authorities report that this is a preventive measure to protect themselves and visitors and to avoid emergency situations that pose a risk.
The competent bodies point out that, as in the upper area, surveillance is maintained in the main rivers and resorts in the south of the state.
The measure became especially important because during Carnival, bodies of water in the area tend to be the most visited destinations. This Monday, the 17th, the entry and development of activities in these spaces in the municipalities of Unda, Sucre, Guanare, Papelón and Guanarito were banned, due to the risk of sudden floods.
The agency urged residents and seasonal workers not to approach restricted areas, to avoid crossing flooded tributaries and to report any emergency both to the agency and to the Fire Department.
