The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Delcy Rodríguez, inaugurated this Tuesday the José Antonio
Abreu University of Music, in Caracas, which will offer careers based on knowledge
accumulated over five decades in El Sistema.
“I was a young vice-chancellor for Europe when one day Maestro Abreu knocked on
my door. He was preceded by his black umbrella. And he came to talk to me about
The System and to ask for support for a tour in Europe. From that day on, I knew
that I would always be a follower of Maestro Abreu. That is why this university
that we are creating today and that bears her name is a tribute to her work and her
life, because she conceived The System as an extraordinary space for social
encounter,” said the president in her speech.
The José Antonio Abreu University of Music comes to
train the country's musicians, highlighting that The System is a work that continues to grow,
reaching more than 1,300,000 boys, girls and young people from all over Venezuela,
through 443 centers and 2,957 musical teaching modules distributed
throughout the country.
The new study center is located in the
facilities of the Simon Bolivar Conservatory of Music, in El Paraíso, which, since
1984, has trained entire generations of Venezuelan instrumentalists, singers and
conductors, and is progressing with 85% of remodeling and expanding
the entire infrastructure that today is transformed into the University of Music.
