The President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez,
reaffirmed this Saturday that Venezuela will move together towards a new phase of
recovery and reconstruction after the double earthquake, in which the greatest protection will continue to be
provided to the people.
“I ask that the spirit of this historic deployment
to overcome ourselves in pain be transformed now into the laborious hands of recovery and
reconstruction. We are going to recover the state of La Guaira,
we are going to rebuild the state of La Guaira, the affected areas of Caracas,
Miranda, Aragua, Yaracuy, Falcón and Carabobo,” he said.
In this regard, during the award ceremony for more than
6,000 rescuers and canine units, he argued that reconstruction must go
beyond infrastructure and encompass the strengthening of the values of Venezuelan society.
“The best expression of this new Venezuela is in the work
you have done over and above physical fatigue, with 48 or even 72
hours without sleep, guided by ethics, commitment and love to
help,” he said.
In addition, he specified that we must also build “a new
ethic for Venezuelan society; one that is an ethic of love, understanding and
cooperation for those who need it. That is the way,” he said.
Finally, he reiterated his recognition of the work
done by officials of all State agencies, who, despite
also losing family members, in the midst of the tragedy, continued their
work to save lives.
“You also lost family members, you lost
co-workers, but you brushed off the dust and grief and went to look for
more life (...) I know the stories of our Armed Forces, the police, the
SEBIN, the La Guaira State Police and the Municipal Police. They lost
their entire families and there went our officials, with their uniforms
up, to continue the search and rescue efforts,” he said.
At the same time, he added that Venezuela will continue to advance and nothing will stop it. “Above pain comes hope. Beyond emotional and physical wounds, we can rebuild ourselves as a people of brotherhood and happiness,” he said.
