In a meeting with the newly declared independent opposition leaders, this Monday the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, confirmed his commitment to the defense of just causes before taking office.

“I never thought about sitting in this (presidential) chair, because of this chair they have killed each other, everything has been done (...) Last names are killed. The oligarchy sat in that chair 168 years, the puppets of the surnames, of the masters of the Valley, since 1830, have sat there and I am here without ever aspiring,” said the President.

In this regard, he indicated that he always aspired “to fight and defend just causes authentically, when I was a student, in the neighborhoods, when I was a trade unionist, I was a constituent, a member of parliament. One day Commander Chávez called me and said 'Nicolás takes over the Foreign Office', and I always said when I was in New York, at the UN, I always said, Chávez changed the map of my parish El Valle, Coche, where I was a deputy, for the world map”.
