President Maduro: Venezuela and China forge strategic alliance for sovereign AI in the Global South

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, stressed that in a momentous step towards technological sovereignty and digital decolonization, Venezuela and China have consolidated an alliance to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) specific to the Peoples of the Global South.

During his program With Maduro+, broadcast number 85, he indicated that this initiative seeks to counteract bias in dominant AI platforms, which reflect a colonialist and imperialist vision and interests of the West.

The Venezuelan President emphasized the urgency of building an AI that shows the history and identity of the peoples of the South, freeing them from technological dependence.

“I discussed it with President Xi Jinping. Nowadays, artificial intelligence already marks technological, social and communicational life. Everyone consults it (the AI), but the one they consult is biased, because it was born biased, for the vision and interests of the colonialist, imperialist West. So we have to build our own artificial intelligence, sovereign, our own, with our history, with our way of being,” he emphasized.

He also recalled that the new colonialism is manifested through technology and communications. “We have to seek a balance, the balance of the world, of AI, and it will be demonstrated by building an AI of the peoples of the global South. In this case, Venezuela has such an alliance with China to build our own AI,” he announced.

Regarding the gold medal won by Venezuelan high school graduates who participated in an AI and robotics summit in Switzerland, he praised the talent of the “Genius Generation” and specified that, in the country, scientific hotbeds have registered more than 400,000 boys and girls.

“They are great boys and girls and they go around the world and they have this success, who won a gold medal in AI and robotics. Imagine those children with our own, sovereign, Venezuelan AI, articulated with the best in the world. Well, we lose sight of the future that awaits Venezuela in terms of AI and technology. Thanks to whom? , to these genius kids who are winning these awards,” he finally said.
