The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, said that the injury suffered by the Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas, which prevents her from participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, does not have to “discourage the Venezuelan Olympic Movement”.

In that regard, he stressed that this Venezuelan sports movement “has all the moral, political, psychological, sporting and financial support for its preparation.”

For that reason, he maintained that he was sure “that our athletes who are qualifying now have 25 athletes (...) I am sure that now they will give twice as much to show Yulimar that she is not alone and that they will continue with great strength”.

The head of state, in the 41st edition of his program “With Maduro+”, stressed that “Yulimar has had a mishap, that's normal for athletes”.

“You have to talk about Yulimar with admiration, with love, in addition to the queen of world athletics, who is and will continue to be: no one can take away her reign,” he said.

He stressed that Rojas “is a girl who has grown up in the face of all difficulties”.

He also stated that the People “recognize Yulimar as a sports hero of Venezuelan youth and she can be sure of all our support.”

He commented that he spoke to the athlete via telephone and recommended, “patience, peace of mind, in God's hands everything will work out and faster than you think, you will be on the tracks again to fill world sport with glory, because Yulimar no longer belongs only to Venezuela, you belong to the world”.
