This Wednesday, the president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, led the ceremony commemorating the Bicentennial of Independence and was accompanied by national authorities, international delegations and special guests.
Likewise, the Bolivian leader asserted that today “we are a country characterized by rebellious and unsubmissive popular sectors in the face of oppression and exploitation, our Plurinational State being the cradle of our valuable cultural diversity.”
“Because of neoliberalism, a few years ago it left 6 out of 10 Bolivian citizens in extreme poverty, but that didn't stop us from moving forward and recovering,” said the president.
During the opening ceremony, it included the raising of the flag and the intonation of the National Anthem in front of the historic Casa de la Libertad, the starting point of the official schedule for the Bicentennial.
This August 6 marks the 200th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, a date that celebrates the freedom, identity and struggle of a sister people.
The independence of Bolivia, proclaimed in 1825, is part of the historic process of emancipation of the Latin American peoples. To commemorate this Bicentenary is also to reaffirm the bonds of unity, respect and fraternity between our nations.
