This Thursday, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, announced the creation of unmanned troops in the country and stressed that this new type of force will be part of the state weapons program for 2027-2036.
In this context, Putin highlighted the growing importance of drones, which are currently used for reconnaissance, smuggling and electronic warfare, as well as for mining and demining areas.
“We are seeing a rapid increase in the effectiveness of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in combat. They are capable of disabling armored vehicles, fortifications, communication systems, transport and enemy personnel. Therefore, our drone operators are now responsible for a significant part of up to 50% of the destroyed or damaged enemy equipment and facilities,” the president stressed.
The president also noted the effective work of Russian air defense systems in the course of the conflict with Ukraine. “Since the start of the special military operation, the Air Defense Forces have destroyed more than 80,000 air targets. Of these, 7,500 are modern tactical and cruise missiles, as well as rockets, mostly, almost entirely, of Western manufacture,” said President Putin.
