The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, proposed the creation of a joint commission composed of the Domestic Policy Committee and the Economy Commission, accompanied by the Public Ministry, for the preparation of the report and public consultations for the Bill for the Protection of Livestock Activity.

During the first discussion of the bill, Rodríguez pointed out that during tours of states with livestock activity, producers have reiterated that herd safety is one of their main concerns, along with genetic strengthening and the protection of production units.

“The sanctions provided for in the current law are pyrrhic. It's a pre-constitutional rule from 1997-1998 that allows up to 90 days to certify ownership of cattle found outside their unit of origin. In 90 days, those cattle may be in another country, so we propose a joint commission to work with the Public Prosecutor's Office on an updated sanctioning regime,” Rodríguez said.

He indicated that updating the sanctioning regime requires the joint participation of both parliamentary committees and the Public Ministry, in order to guarantee an instrument adapted to the current realities of the livestock sector.
