The president of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, called on the United States government to abandon aggressive tactics against Venezuela and the region, defending respect for sovereignty and dialogue as a path to peace.
“Every government must be respected. Our call to the United States is to allow debates. Let's sit at the table instead of waging wars, instead of trying to remove governments in power, instead of moving to other people's countries because we are smaller than you and you are more prepared than us and you harass us into submission. So for us in the Caribbean, we are calling on the United States to cease that aggression against Venezuela. I think that all of Latin America and the Caribbean are singing one voice and we can only hope that the United States will listen to and respect the sovereignty of Venezuela,” said the president.
The Caribbean president described them as “aggressive and intimidating” tactics against Venezuela and, in general, against Latin America and the Caribbean used by the United States in the region .
Burton stressed that the only possible way out to resolve regional tensions is through dialogue, respect for sovereignty and peaceful negotiations.
“Our mission is to defend the liberal values and egalitarian traditions in which we believe, and which deserve to be defended in writing that is both informative and insightful,” he said.
