Coffee producers in the state of Mérida sent a first shipment of coffee to temporary camps and rescue teams dealing with the emergency in Caracas and La Guaira, following the earthquakes that occurred on June 24.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the donation was more than 700 kilograms of roasted and ground grains, which were delivered to the main collection center installed at the headquarters of Civil Protection in the entity, the Government of Mérida reported.
The state manager of the Venezuelan Coffee Corporation (CVC), Johan Mejías, explained that the contribution seeks to provide support to affected families and to rescuers who remain deployed in care work.
“Every contribution counts. A grain of coffee fills the soul; a cup of coffee, at any time, soothes,” he said.
In this first shipment, companies grouped in the Association of Coffee Producers of Los Andes (APROCANDES) participated, including Aprocafé, Kolao, Café El Roble, Cruz Café and La Chapola.
Mejías also invited the rest of the region's coffee farmers to join this initiative and reiterated APROCANDES' willingness to continue supporting actions coordinated by the Government of Mérida and the Ministry of People's Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands.
